If I could choose to be a character in the play, I would choose Bottom. I would want to play Bottom because of his personality. The things Bottom says are typically funny, which I think would be more fun to play than someone who has a less humorous character. Also, Bottom is never in love with another character. I wouldn't want to play a lover because I think it would be hard for me to pretend to be in love.
Who was your least favorite character? Why?
My least favorite character was Helena. Helena was crushed by being rejected by Demetrius, which results in her spending the majority of the play sulking and whining. This makes her seem like a slightly unpleasant character. It is much nicer to read about a character whose moods vary, rather than staying in the same state the whole play, especially when that mood is depression. Also, Helena comes across as a little whiny. She accuses the other characters of playing a cruel joke against her. She kind of reminds me of a person I once knew that always yelled at others because she thought they were gossiping about her when they weren't.
Did you like the play? Why or why not?
I did like the play. I thought it was very funny. I also liked that it was kind of fun and frivolous, as opposed to something really deep and tragic. I just find comedies more enjoyable. Also, I liked the plot. I thought it was clever and not too confusing. Plays with confusing plots are extremely annoying to me because I feel like I spend more time trying to figure out what is going on than actually enjoying the play.
